From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
