Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
